1999 Isuzu Rodeo check engine light on?

It smells like gas usually when it gets cold outside, like it is now. I took it to a shop and they said it was a EGR valve or the mapping in the computer. Is there an easy way to cvalve? If so, where is it located? I have a V6 3.2 litre engine, 4x4, automatic transmission.
