Lump on help please?

So my mother just recently let me know she went to the doctor to get her yearly check up (which is actually her first in 10years) and she informed me that they found some spots in one of her but weren't sure if it was cancerous yet. She gets that tested next week but today when I talked to her on the phone she gave me a scary update. She said the they were looking at is now forming a hard lump and her fiance' has noticed it too. Is it possible the tests could have sped up the process if something is wrong? She has had cancer before but that was uterus cancer one year after she had me so I don't remember anything. Has anyone had a similar experience with cancer and how can I as her only child help her if she does? I know it could be nothing but I want to be prepared. How long until they normally know results? She is my only parent and I'm really truly worried and want to do anything I can do to help her. I'm 20 now but she raised me on her own so I want to be there for her now and be prepared beforehand.
